Submit a completed initial examination application with the appropriate fee and any additional documentation. After applying, you will receive an examination admission letter with your exam date and time. The exam consists of a written and practical portion. Upon passing the exam, you will receive your license. The Board offers Helpful Hints about the examination that will help you prepare.

Barbers must complete 1500 hours of training before taking the State Board examination. Be sure you understand the hourly requirements, list of qualifying training schools, application process, and examination procedures.

 

On the day of your exam, you will need to bring your own model who must present a government-issued ID. The model can be an acquaintance or someone hired from an agency or kit company. Other necessary supplies and equipment are listed in the Candidate Information Bulletin.
